Energy: Protection of a Gas Turbine with Intercept Shrink Film

In Thailand a gas turbine for an energy industry project was wrapped in Intercept Shrink Film. The purpose of the wrap is long-term storage. Often parts and components need to be stored for long period of time due to delays in construction or as spare parts in case of a failure.

Long-term storage can be tricky. In Thailand the climate is humid and warm. These are excellent conditions for corrosion to occur. Prior to implement Intercept Technology preservation systems corrosion was found during transport and storage.

The Intercept solution comprised 8mil Intercept Shrink Film with a second layer of 8ml Power Heat Shrink Film for UV protection, desiccants and Corrosion Intercept Foam and inspection windows.

Result was a full elimination of corrosion. Protection from aggressive acids and foreign metal contamination during transportation and storage was achieved. No nitrogen canister was required for enabling rotation. A proper UV protection for proper outdoor storage was maintained. The preservation system did not use oil and it was therefore not necessary to remove oils at destination. The packaging materials had no OH&S and recycling issues.
