INTERCEPT was designed to protect sensitive electronic parts from corrosion and at the same time prevent electronic discharge. The protective properties of INTERCEPT came into play in the 1980s, when the Statue of Liberty was restored in New York City. Since then, the most diverse products have been used in museums and elsewhere to protect art objects in exhibitions and at warehouses.
Metals, textiles, paper as well as digital records (CDs) can be affected by corrosion. To reduce damage or even complete loss of artifacts new methods must be developed to ensure complete protection.
In the context of exhibitions, INTERCEPT is mostly used as a protective layer for the back side of paintings and graphics or as a protective layer between wood and bare metal. INTERCEPT films consist of polyethylene film whereby reactive copper particles are admitted into the film matrix. The copper particles react with the corrosive gases before they can affect the packed objects.
This material consists of polyurethane foam with integrated reactive copper particles. Foam is used to add as much copper as possible into the smallest possible volume of material. Therefore Intercept foam is suitable as an additional corrosion protection in storage boxes and showcases. General usage extends to storage of machines and other metal objects, for example in the field of archaeological metal discovery.
INTERCEPT Laminates are applied as a protective barrier to the inside of wooded boxes and pallets. The volume in which water vapor penetrates laminated aluminum and the film is less than 0.05g / m2 per day. The laminated form has a thickness of 125 micron and is suitable to protect art objects from outgassing from fresh wood. It can be used as a lining for air-conditioned containers and other wood packaging and is also often applied to protect paintings.
INTERCEPT Transparent
INTERCEPT Transparent is used to pack and protect individual artifacts. The film is half transparent whereby the artifact is not visible in the packaging. INTERCEPT Transparent is also used for framed graphics. Another application is the protection of textiles and fabrics.
